I Must Leave - Alisa Shamrow

When I was a teen, I was in love with Broadway. I saw Les Miserables more times than I could count and dreamed of playing Eponine on stage. I think this love of musicals influenced my songwriting style a lot, and early on, a lot of my songs really fit into this genre.

While I’ve tried to step away from it to explore other genres and styles, sometimes it just creeps in and I come up with a song that people tell me sounds like a Broadway tune. I am grateful for that feedback, because musicals can sometimes produce the most haunting and evocative of melodies.
